Dance It Up with
Scenes And Sirens
Updated: 03/13/08
Interview by Kenneth Morton
Listen up to the pop rock tunes of Scenes And Sirens and all you'll wanna do is dance, dance, dance! Infectious pop tunes abound from Mark and Brian, a talented dup who are beginning to garner a good deal of attention due to their rockin' songs and Myspace presence. On the verge of releasing a new CD, we decided to check in with this exciting new act...
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Scenes and Sirens, and how long the band has been together.
My name is Brian Maddox and I play guitar and we have been together for a year and 3 months
Where is the band from and what is the local music scene like there?
We are from Dallas, Texas and the local music scene is pretty big here. We have had bands such as The Rocket Summer, Forever The Sickest Kids, and PlayRadioPlay who all helped get kids into local music down here.
How did the two words Scenes and Sirens wind up being used in your band name? Any story behind the name?
The name came from a lyric of a song from a previous band me and Mark were in together. All the guys in that band were our best friends and we chose it as our name because we wanted to keep the memories of that band.
How long ago did your CD Lost Lust, But Living come out? Where did you get the idea for the title?
It came out in March of 07 and the title for that CD describes a lot of the emotion put into the songs. It is pretty much a soundtrack for the typical heartbroken teenager.
You are about to release an all new CD of music? How has your music changed or progressed since the last CD?
It is a night and day difference. Our style is much more upbeat, dancy and catchy. This next CD The South Will Dance Again will definitely start a new era for the band.
Where did both of you meet and at what point did you decide you want to be in a band together?
We met through the guitar player in our previous band and as that band started to fall apart, Mark came up with the idea to start a band with a new kind of sound and style.
What is a live Scenes and Sirens show like for those of us who have yet to see you play?
It is high energy and full of dancing, during our last song we bring as many fans on the stage as we can fit and have an all out party
At this point, have you had any label interest yet? And considering how successful you’ve been at promoting your music on Myspace, would you want to be on a label?
We have had label interest, and have played a few showcases. When the time and offer is right, we would love to be on a label.
Have you ever played in the LA/OC area or plan to do so in the future?
We have actually, but only played one public show there, the other shows have been private showcases
Do you have any unusual Myspace stories that you could share?
Um... the only interesting thing that has happened to us is about a month ago someone changed all of our top friends to these random Asian people lol
Are there any Scenes and Sirens groupies wandering around the big State of Texas or beyond?
Yes there is lol, everyday we get a lot of people begging us to visit them. This summer once we graduate high school, we will be all over the place!
When you write songs, where do you get the ideas for some of the lyrics?
When writing lyrics, I guess the main thing we do is try not to write something cliche. The lyrics just kind of pop into my head I don't really know where the idea comes from.
Many of your fans cite Jessica as one of their favorite S & S songs. Who is Jessica?
Jessica is Mark’s Ex-girlfriend
What is it you’d like to a listener to remember the most after hearing your music for the first time?
I guess I would like them to remember our band name that way they can tell other people about us!
Any final words of wisdom?
If you like music at all then you will love our upcoming album The South Will Dance Again coming out March 14th 2008. Check us out at myspace at www.myspace.com/scenesandsirens!
