Fans from everywhere were spamming the Highwire Daze Myspace, wanting to read an interview with a band out of Denver called The Forgotten Secret. One listen to their dynamic post hardcore reveries, and you begin to see why so many people are excited about this new act. The average age in the band is just 16 and yet they rock better than musicians twice their age. Here is a recent interview we conducted with two of the members
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in The Forgotten Secret, and how long the band has been together.
Hey it’s Steven and Mike! I (Steven) play bass, and mike plays
guitar. We have been together about 10 months.
What is the current music scene like in Denver, and how does The Forgotten Secret fit into the scheme of things?
The current “music scene” or arrangement of bands in Denver is turning more to a metal/hardcore side but as a band, we want our music to stay on the epic choruses and the brutal yet melodic breakdowns. Basically what we are saying is that the music we write fits our own personal styles individually and all of it put together makes us the band we are.
What is the average age of the band members, and has it been easier or more difficult to get your band noticed because of your age?
Our ages range from 15 to 17 (Kyle: 16, Steven: 15, Mike: 15, Andy: 15 and Ryan: 17) and it definitely effects where our music is professionally allowed to go. Touring, for example, is only possible during time off from school (summer break/winter break) which means record labels, unless they cut us slack because of our age, will most likely not be interested.
Describe your music to an elderly relative who has never heard you play before.
Our music; a chorus of angels breathing upon your ears, a melodic rhythm you can dance to, and brutal breakdowns of an epic battle. Haha!
What exactly is The Forgotten Secret that you are referring to in your name?
Well, the name doesn't have any intentional meaning but you can think of it as anything you'd like!
How close is The Forgotten Secret to putting out an EP or full length CD?
We’re done recording, the only thing left to do is mix/master it all. It should be done, pressed and ready for release by mid February.
What do you think sets your part apart from others in the Denver music scene?
What set us apart from other Denver bands is our young age, our ability and talent to play music, and how we write our music.
Who are some of the more known bands you have opened a show for?
We’ve opened for bands such as Mayday Parade, Four Letter Lie, Memphis Mayfire, Bed Light for Blue Eyes, Dear Whoever, Annabelle Lee and will soon be opening for Tonight is Glory, The Classic Struggle, The Ghost Inside, From The Graves of Valor (Ex Through The Eyes of The Dead), and in March, A Heartwell Ending.
Some of you are from another local band called All Days Have Died. Is that band still around? If so, how difficult is it to share band members?
For the most part All Days Have Died is not a band anymore because of musical complications meaning The Forgotten Secret is the full concentration for Mike, Ryan and Kyle.
Are there any The Forgotten Secret groupies wandering around Denver or beyond?
There are probably some out there, but to whom is unknown.
What are your future plans for the band? Any California shows coming up?
Our future plans is to get this EP finished and released, and then do a full western U.S. tour to promote ourselves and sell the CD. At one point within the next year, we would love to sign a record contract with a label who would be flexible with touring but will use other tools such as myspace to promote and sell any records we produce with them. From there we will only see what happens and hope for the best.
Do you have any messages for people reading this article who will now be checking your music out for the first time?
