Before Martin "Axe" Axenrot joined Opeth on drums he and Opeth leader Mikael Akerfeldt ripped shit up in metal super group Bloodbath. With the then lineup including Dan Swano and Katatonia members Anders Nystrom on guitar and Jonas Renske on bass, Bloodbath performed their first and likely only live show at the world famous Wacken Festival in 2005. Bloodbath's Metal is so intensely performed you'll be banging your head immediately. Interspersed between insane tracks like So You Die's fast beats, Swano and Nystrom’s violent guitars and Akerfeldt’s shredding growl are the vocalist's deadpan humorous interactions with the crowd, inciting the fans to scream like Danni Filth.

While songs like Outnumbering The Day are full of doom and gloom, Bloodbath knows composition, not settling on simply pummeling listeners' ears (though they do plenty of that), but include movements within most tracks that slow things down for a few seconds before crashing back into speaker melting speed metal. For the heaviest of music, Bloodbath excel, keeping up the energy throughout their set. Look for Akerfeldt to offer his vocal talents to an upcoming Bloodbath CD due out later in 2008, but for now try not to break too much furniture while enjoying Bloodbath’s Wacken Carnage.
