Neaera Metal Blade Records Updated: 07/19/06
Neaera’s atypical moniker is derived from a character in Greek mythology, a woman who was sold into sexual slavery, and then oppressed all of her life because of her sordid past. Let The Tempest Come could be the soundtrack to her fury, featuring 11 tracks of metallic hardcore that soar above what is usually expected from the genre. This German band has a lot in common with fellow countrymen Heaven Shall Burn and Caliban, but definitely strike out on their own with creatively intense compositions and fierce breakdowns. Their second release for Metal Blade, Let The Tempest Come is a memorable recording bound to garner the band a good deal of respect. Standing apart from the many other “core” bands that infest the genre, Neaera’s profound sense of urgency may be heard on tracks such as Mechanisms Of Standstill, Plagueheritage, Scars Of Gray, and the compelling title cut. Don’t let their obscure band name get in the way – check out Let The Tempest Come by the mighty Neaera and get ready for a brutal assault to the senses. Here’s hoping these guys can come over and launch an all-out metal invasion sometime this year! (Kenneth Morton)
