4DBling: A Policy of Truth!!!
Updated: 10/12/08
by Kenneth Morton
4DBling is a hip hop project consisting of rapper White-E. The subjects of his songs speak of truth and urgency – an honest that can be as brutal as it is seductive. We recently sent White-E a few email questions to learn more about his up and coming artist and his policy of truth …
Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in 4DBling, and how long the project has been going?
I came up with my rap alias 4Dbling around the time I made my first song Hockinson which was during the winter of 2004. Hockinson is the town I lived in and went to high school in, and also did my first shows in. The song was actually making fun of the high school and a bunch of kids that went there, but people really liked it so I ended up making three more "Hockinson" songs before I graduated in 2007. Now I just work and smoke a lot of bud, and rap of course.
What initially got you into rap and hip hop and who or what are some of your influences when writing?
As cliche as it sounds I would have to say Eminem had the most influence on my earlier attempts at rapping. I started out by freestyling in the halls at school, and battling anyone who would challenge me. I wasn't all that good, but it was entertaining so I could get some pretty big crowds.
What city are you from and what is the overall music scene like there?
Hockinson is a small ass town, but is close to Portland and Seattle which both have a very good music scene. I am friends with a lot of talented musicians from around here, and we are gonna make a lot of noise in the future. It doesn't matter where you live anymore, we all go through the same shit and everybody knows it.
What are some of the more interesting reactions you’ve received from your song Drugs? What made you decide to write such a blunt song about drug taking?
Well I don't think my mom was too thrilled when she first heard it, but I've had a lot of girls come up to me and sing me the whole thing which is sick. I made Drugs around the time I first started getting really fucked up, and I think a lot of kids can relate to it.
You have a song called I Liked You Better In Your Pictures On Myspace. Is this based on some true incident?
All of my music is based on a true story.
The song Cookie Dough must go over really well with the girls. Where did you get the inspiration for that song?
I was eating cookie dough ice cream while watching a porno, and bam it just CAME to me.
Is Till Death Do Us Part based on a true story? It’s definitely a moving track!
Yes it was, which was why it was a really hard track to make because rapping it made me kind of emotional, but I think a lot of people have experienced the same kind of grief. I had some people tell me that they cried during it because they could relate, and it made them remember the person that they had lost.
What do you tell people who say with all the drug taking, that you might, "Be dead by 26."
Well first I snicker a little, then I blow some smoke in their face and say "I take them drugs and get fucked up!"
What’s the strangest thing you have ever done on your Stickam?
Oh my God you don't even want to know. Webcams turn boredom into hours of pointless entertainment. Like accidentally leaving your cam on while you... nevermind.
Do you feel like you’re a “Myspace personality” and how has Myspace affected your life and music?
As much as I hate to admit it, I would have to say that I am somewhat of a myspace personality to some people. It's helped me get my music out to my fans, and make a lot of new fans as well.
Should all drugs be legalized?
I don't think most people are ready for that kind of responsibility, but I think everyone should smoke weed.
All of your songs are available for free download on Myspace and other Internet outlets. What has made you decide to give them away as opposed to sell them?
I get enough money on the side so I don't need to worry about selling my music yet. I want to be happy with my sound before I make people spend their money on it, and I still have a lot to learn.
Have you had any label interest? Would you want to release a CD on your own?
I'm very interested in signing with a good label eventually, but I'm happy with doing it myself for now.
Before Eminem there was Vanilla Ice. What do you think of him?
Fake talentless gimmick.
What’s up next for 4DBling?
I have a few songs almost finished in the studio that I will be releasing within the next few weeks. Everyone should definitely keep checking my page for new shit, I try to keep my page fresh.
Do you have any messages for people reading this who would be into checking out your music?
If you smoke weed or have a naturally open mind I think you will be able to enjoy my music. So I guess my only message is to smoke as much weed as you possibly can, and read Highwire Daze magazine because Ken knows what you fuckers want!
